Protected Persons Practitioner
Role Purpose

To develop, implement, maintain and review bespoke risk management plans for high-risk, high-threat, designated Protected Persons cases.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide specialist safeguarding advice, working collaboratively with partner agencies and people at risk to deliver bespoke and appropriate risk mitigation solutions.
- Produce innovative and responsive risk management plans encompassing a holistic range of protective measures tailored to the needs of the protected person.
- Identify opportunities for new ways of working, applying critical thinking to find solutions to problems in line with evidence based practice within own area of responsibility.
- Direct multi-agency teams to promote safeguarding of individuals and communities affected by protective measures.
- Support victims, witnesses and offenders through the criminal justice process in order to provide safe solutions to CJS issues and risk mitigation advice to the enquiry team and other partner agencies.
- Maintain accurate records of decisions and rationales in order to justify and professionally account for actions and outcomes and ensure compliance with legal frameworks, key working principles, policies and guidance.
- Establish and maintain a supportive and ethical professional relationship with the protected person, building trust through integrity and consistency.
- Employ trade craft techniques in a confident, credible and professional manner as a risk mitigation tactic.

Prior education and experience:
- Must have successfully completed the Protected Person Practitioner Course and training programme.
- Must have direct experience of safeguarding, conflict resolution, establishing and maintaining professional boundaries, collaborative working and assessing and mitigating risk.
Skills:
- Able to set out logical arguments clearly, adapting language, form and message to meet the needs of different people / audiences.
- Skilled in using specialised software related to own area of work to extract, analyse and report on data.
- Able to manage the introduction of new business processes or ways of working.
- Able to identify cause and effect and develop a course of action designed to target root causes and mitigate risks.
- Able to proactively develop effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders, understanding their needs and concerns.
- Able to identify drivers of behaviour, acting with discretion and emotional intelligence to manage conflict and defuse difficult situations.
- Able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of partners and potential opportunities for collaboration.
- Able to identify potential opportunities to enhance efficiency and/or effectiveness within own area of work.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Maintain an up to date understanding of NCA policies and procedures, College of Policing guidance, best practice and any local policy applicable to the operational context.
- Maintain and update key knowledge, understanding and skills relating to crime trends, legislation, policy and practice applied across all functional areas of operational activity.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of new approaches identified by evidence-based policing research and problem solving, test and synthesise these into working practice, championing innovation and changes to practice.
- Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of new and evolving crime threats and priorities.
- Maintain personal resilience through understanding the health and well-being of yourself and others.
- Identify and share ways to enable continuous and client-focused improvement to the service.
- Complete all annual and mandatory training.
