To fly as a rostered Line Pilot in accordance with the approved Flight Time Limitation scheme, providing effective air support to ground based officers and in doing so improve operational response to incidents within the higher safety standards.

Key Accountabilities

• Undertake necessary daily pre-flight inspections of the aircraft and related equipment and conduct pre-flight briefings in accordance with the NPAS operations manual.

• Ensure the efficient and effective operation of the aircraft in accordance with the highest safety standards and CAA and operations manual rules.

• Provide aviation technical advice and assistance in the planning of police operations and functions which require the services of NPAS and contribute to debriefings as appropriate.

• Assist with the cleaning, fuel testing and analysis, ground handling and re-fuelling of the aircraft as appropriate.

• Assist other members of the crew, other staff at the base on the ground and at the scene of an incident when operational needs dictate.

• Liaise with maintenance engineers and assist as necessary during rostered duty to maximise the availability of the aircraft.

• Undertake any aviation related task as directed by the base manager or a senior pilot.

• Perform any such duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.

Prior education and experience:

• Must possess as a minimum a current commercial pilot’s licence with RT licence and Class 1 Medical and hold an EASA Single Pilot Instrument Rating.

• Must be able to demonstrate experience with a minimum of 1500 hours total flying including 500 hours PIC overland with a significant proportion of low flying and 50 hours flying at night.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

• Keep up to date with changing legislation and current national priorities relating to all key areas within policing and how this may affect you in your role.

• Ensure all decision making is in line with the National Decision Model.

• Maintain a working knowledge of how technological advances might facilitate offenders in committing crimes.

• Complete all recurrent and mandatory training.
