Building on the success of our well-established Police Science degree, the new Professional Policing degree will prepare you for the challenges of modern policing and related professions.
The police course has been designed to meet all the core requirements of the National Police Curriculum for the College of Policing’s pre-join degree in Professional Policing.
Modules cover key areas of policing knowledge such as counter terrorism, covert activities, law and the justice system, crime scene awareness, digital policing, cyber-enabled crime, protecting the vulnerable in society, and community policing.
You will be taught by former police officers and leading academics and enjoy outstanding facilities on campus. We are one of the few universities in the world to have a Hydra Simulation Centre, which is used to train police officers at all levels.
CertHE in Professional Practice
The Professional Practice Framework is designed to allow practitioners in work to study for a degree in their professional field. Depending upon their experience and aspirations individual officers, managers and support staff can achieve an undergraduate degree, postgraduate certificate/diploma or Masters in their own practice. The course is offered through a blended learning provision that does not require learners to take extensive time off work but provides full support for those who may not have studied in higher education before or for some time.
CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership
The Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership is designed for middle managers and those aspiring to senior management who want to develop their key skills and recognise their capabilities. A Diploma in Management and Leadership is the benchmark qualification for full CMI membership, taking you another step towards Chartered Manager status.
Computer and Digital Forensics BSc (Hons)
On the digital forensics course, students will be taught to locate and analyse evidence and conduct digital forensic investigations to the highest standard. Using the same software as professionals, you will work in our specialist computer forensics and security laboratories, with support from our highly experienced staff and industry experts.
From day one, students will learn how to conduct investigations, undertake research to solve problems and write reports about your findings and present evidence in a court of law, all essential for a career as a digital forensics specialist. You will develop computing applications for varied discipline specific problem domains, plan and manage the development and use of computing systems and will be encouraged to work both individually and as part of a team.
Computer Network and Cyber Security BSc (Hons)
The BSc (Hons) Computer Network and Cyber Security programme has been created to meet global demand for skilled individuals who understand how computers work, how networks are designed, built and configured and how software is used to monitor and secure these systems. It covers a broad range of computing specialisms and it will open the door to a vast range of careers within this industry. From day one, you will be immersed in an exciting, innovative environment where you will develop your theoretical and technical knowledge and skills which will be directly relatable to your future career.
Computer Science with Web Development BSc (Hons)
The BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Web Development covers a broad range of computing specialisms and will open the door to a vast range of careers within this industry. You will gain advanced skills in designing and programming dynamic and responsive web based systems that process and integrate content from multiple sources, including third party web services like Google Maps, social media and remote databases. This will include development using a leading Cloud-based service provider such as Amazon or Google.
Doctor of Policing, Security and Criminal Justice
This course is a professional doctorate which supports the student in producing a thesis. The course aims to enable students to make an original contribution to academic knowledge and professional practice. The course provides a taught element over two weekends providing methodological/research teaching and advice on reflective practice. The rest of the course consists of the thesis stage, where the student produces an original thesis under the supervision from a team of experienced supervisors at the university.
FdA Criminal Justice Practice (Policing Studies)
Provide a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the core areas of criminology, with a particular focus on policing and criminal justice.
