MA Investigative Management provides you with the opportunity to study leadership and management theories in the context of work-based investigative practice. The programme reflects upon current problems and future potential solutions within investigative practice and will equip you with the ability to contribute towards the future success of investigation.

This unique programme enables you to develop and expand your knowledge and understanding of investigations within a professional practice context, whilst building your knowledge of management theory that can be practically applied to solving investigation related problems.

This Masters programme draws together an inter-disciplinary team of academics and practitioners with expertise in Leadership, Management Learning and Organisational Development.  With a focus on building theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills, the MA Leadership in Organisations draws on the latest research to help leaders and managers operating across a wide range of organisational contexts to understand and manage the complexities of organisational life.

The programme will develop students’ knowledge of, and ability to critically evaluate contemporary issues and a range of theoretical approaches to and perspectives on leadership in organisations. Students will be equipped with skills which will allow them to be effective when leading a workforce in a complex, dynamic and increasingly global organisational environment. Students will also be required to reflect critically on their professional development and develop a sound platform should they wish to pursue further academic study at PhD level.

Course content

2 x 30 credit modules (The first one lays the foundations for the understanding of the wide range of ways that leadership, management and organisations have been conceptualised in the 21st century. The second one focuses on Management Learning, drawing on theories of learning that underpin and inform Management Learning practices and leadership development. It will also explore and critique their use and application in a range of management learning practices, including, formal education and training, action learning, coaching and mentoring and reflective practice.

4 x 15 credit modules (allow you to consider and understand the complexities of the nature of leadership in organisations from a multidisciplinary perspective: i.e. Managerial and Intrapreneurial Leadership; Authentic Leadership in Practice; Toxic Leadership and Critical Leadership).

Assessment Style:Students’ knowledge and understanding is assessed by a variety of individual and group coursework, and reflexive activities throughout the programme. The range of coursework submissions allows students to demonstrate their understanding of theory and practice and their ability to sustain a coherent argument.
Delivery Methods:The MA Leadership in Organisations consists of two 30-credit modules, four 15 credit modules (as explained above) and culminates in an Applied Dissertation (60 Credits).

There are two options for students to undertake their studies:

(i)            Full time  (ii) Part time

The Organised Crime and Global Security MA is the ideal choice if you have an interest in organised crime and security matters on a global scale.

This degree will provide you with the leadership, management and analytical skills needed to succeed in the field. You’ll gain valuable experience in research and the study of crime and politics.
You’ll critically assess current policies and practices related to national and international crime control, as well as the links between these and international relations and politics. Option modules will allow you to specialise in a field that interests you, these include international law and order, conflict resolution and contemporary issues in criminology.

London Met invites visiting professors and experts in criminology and international relations to the University to share their expertise. These guest visits complement the knowledge of our academics who are actively engaged in research including street crime, gangs and police body cameras. This expertise will support you when undertaking your dissertation.

By the end of the course you’ll be able to deal with complex issues both systematically and creatively, making sound judgements in the absence of complete data and communicating your conclusions clearly. The course is an opportunity to open up new thinking and to expand your career opportunities within the security industry

n 2020, policing in England and Wales became a graduate profession. Building on the success of our well-established Professional Policing degree, this masters degree will enhance and develop your management and leadership skills, whilst developing your knowledge and skills in contemporary policing areas.

The police course has been designed in conjunction with local forces and builds upon core requirements of the National Police Curriculum.

The course is designed to equip the student with the knowledge and skills required to investigate and analyse contemporary problems of crime, disorder and community safety and to evaluate current policies and practices designed to address them. The MA Youth Justice, Community Safety and Applied Criminology degree is designed for people working or seeking to work in the area of crime and criminal justice. It offers a detailed understanding of contemporary issues facing professionals and managers in the criminal justice system and of the changing roles and responsibilities of the agencies and practitioners which make up that system

The core modules focus on applying criminological theory and research to policy and practice, youth offending, disorder and gangs, interpersonal violence and hate crime, and community safety and public protection. The remainder of the programme is made up by studying optional modules which examine particular aspects of crime and criminal justice in depth or through a work-based learning or internship project.

Delivered by leading researchers and drawing on the expertise of those currently working in the field, this degree provides both traditional academic provision in the form of lectures, seminars and tutorials and the opportunity to undertake up to a third of the course via work-based learning (for those already working in appropriate contexts) or an internship with an agency such as a Youth Offending Team, a Drug and Alcohol Support Service or a Community Safety Partnership.

In addition to the 20-credit core modules and a Dissertation, students make up the remaining 40 credits of study by choosing either one or two of the optional 20-credit modules and/or one of the work-based learning options.

The core elements of the programme are delivered on one evening per week so as to allow for those in work to attend. The remainder of the programme is made up by either studying optional modules available during the daytime or (in the case of one module) via distance learning or by a combination of a long or short dissertation and/or the long or short work-based learning or internship modules.

This flexibility, both in the choice of content as well as in the mode of delivery/learning, allows students to tailor the course as much as possible to their own needs. This includes the option to study the programme over one year full-time or two years part-time.

Assessment Style:Students’ knowledge and understanding is assessed by a variety of assessment methods including essays, reports, case study work, presentations, reviews and a research proposal. The range of coursework submissions allows students to demonstrate their understanding of theory and practice and their ability to sustain a coherent argument.

The overall aim of the MBA is to educate individuals as managers and business specialists, and thus to improve the quality of management as a profession. Masters degrees add value, for example to first (or bachelors) degrees, by developing in individuals an integrated and critically aware understanding of management and organisations in a global context, assisting them to take effective roles within them.

The MBA programme has been designed to provide insights into the new world of work on different levels. Therefore it focuses on developing and reflecting on high level management skills and competences which will be applicable across a wide range of situations, sectors and organisations. Students will learn the principles and skills which help managers to maximise the potential of organisational resources to achieve shared goals. The aims of this degree are:
