Role Purpose

The Analyst supports the work of a Professional Standards Unit by providing objective analytical assessments of information and by producing and presenting analytical products. They provide testimony and evidential statements for misconduct and criminal proceedings, and prepare tactical and strategic intelligence and performance products to aid managerial, operational and investigative decision-making.

Key Accountabilities

• Produce and present analytical products, including appropriate recommendations, to meet specified requirements and contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of investigations and the investigative process.

• Give testimony and provide evidential statements, including attending court or misconduct hearings, so that accurate information is provided to assist the effective running of proceedings.

• Produce analytical assessments that include appropriate hypotheses and recommendations to support the development of strategic and tactical initiatives.

• Analyse data from open and closed sources and databases to highlight, identify and interpret gaps, patterns and trends, to ensure that all relevant information is available to support investigations and to inform decision-making processes.

• Collect, collate, and evaluate data in line with legislation and force policies to support the investigative process and contribute to the delivery of analytical products.

• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to share data, information and analysis where appropriate to contribute to effective decision making.

• Identify, implement and share best practice in respect of intelligence analysis to maintain and improve standards of intelligence analysis.

Prior education and experience:
• Education to a degree level or equivalent relevant work-based experience.

• Experience in analysing and evaluating data.

Skills:
• Skilled in using specialised analytical software related to own area of work to extract, analyse and report on data.

• Good team working skills demonstrating awareness of individual differences and providing support as required.

• Good communication skills with the ability to listen to others.

• Able to produce concise reports or other documents.

• Able to proactively develop effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders.

• Able to identify potential opportunities to enhance efficiency and/or effectiveness within own area of work.

• Able to break down a straightforward problem into component parts and determine appropriate action.

• Able to appropriately prioritise and plan own work.

• Able to review own performance objectively and to take steps to maintain and enhance competence and professional standards appropriate to the role.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

• Maintain and enhance knowledge and understanding of analytical software, techniques and skills.

• Maintain knowledge of College of Policing Guidance and other applicable national and local guidance relating to professional standards.

• Participate in networking opportunities, sharing learning with peers in order to identify opportunities to improve your practice.

• Complete all annual and mandatory training as required.
